Dolphins sign former 5-star Alabama, Ohio State standout image

The Miami Dolphins have signed someone with a fascinating background.

There aren't too many players who can say they played college football at both Alabama and Ohio State.

But Kendall Sheffield can say that.

The Dolphins signed Sheffield to their practice squad on Wednesday, according to the league's transaction report.

Sheffield was originally a five-star cornerback recruit in the Class of 2015, and he started his college career with the Crimson Tide.

He detoured to Blinn College for a year before ending up with the Buckeyes.

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Sheffield in the fourth round (111th pick) in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Falcons released Sheffield in 2022, and then he joined the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys each for short stints.

Sheffield went on to have short stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans and New York Jets, too.

The Dolphins had Sheffield with them over the summer, but they released him on August 26 as part of final roster cuts.

Now, Sheffield is back in the building at a position of need. Miami has had a ton of cornerback injuries since the start of training camp.

In his career, Sheffield has 114 tackles and six passes defensed in regular season action. He'll be trying to get back up to the active roster soon.
