Miami Dolphins fans should brace for a tough night against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday. Facing one of the NFL's strongest teams, the 0-2 Dolphins are unlikely to pull off an upset. A blowout loss could trigger organizational changes, with many expecting the shakeup to start with head coach Mike McDaniel.
On PFT Live, Mike Florio asked Miami Herald analyst Omar Kelly if a possible defeat would lead to the firing of McDaniel, general manager Chris Grier or both. Kelly placed the lion's share of blame on the top executive rather than the coach.
“To me, Grier deserves more of the blame and probably the first firing,” Kelly said, “because how long has he been here? He’s been here 20 years in a position of power, and, you know, been running the organization as a top executive since 2019. Clearly, this is a failure. But if Steve Ross does anything, I need him to do a scorched-earth cleanse and wipe the whole thing and start fresh, because that’s literally the only thing he’s never done.”
Despite the public frustration, Kelly thinks McDaniel should not be the first to lose his job if changes come. He also speculated that Grier might remain with the organization in some capacity due to ongoing legal matters.
What the Dolphins need most today is a win. But they face a high-powered Bills team. A shocker would buy Mike McDaniel some much-needed breathing room. That's exactly what the team hopes for.
