The Kansas City Chiefs no longer have the advantage of a weak AFC West with the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders hiring competent head coaches in the last two years. Nonetheless, can that play a role in ending the Chiefs' dynasty run?
On Wednesday's edition of "The Herd," host Colin Cowherd stated that the Chiefs' dynasty run will end this season, but that doesn't mean Kansas City won't be winning games.
"So when everybody, myself included, says the dynasty is over in Kansas City starting this year, it doesn't mean they're not going to be great," Cowherd said. "It doesn't mean they won't get to another Super Bowl. It doesn't mean winning is over, but they only hoist one.
"And Mahomes is older, more and more expensive. There is one Travis Kelce, and he's probably in his last year. Chris Jones isn't getting any younger. And the truth is, Mahomes' coach is 67, and I love Andy, but the chance of him lasting six to seven more years physically is probably very small."

Although reaching the Super Bowl has become routine for the Chiefs, the Cincinnati Bengals once beat them to get there, showing that Kansas City can go a year without making the big game.

The question is whether teams in the AFC West and the AFC in general can topple the Chiefs. Teams like the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens have failed to do so when given the chance. Still, as Cowherd noted, time might be what eventually works against Kansas City and gives other teams an opportunity.
In their division, the Chiefs have to face coaches who have won or been to a Super Bowl in Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, and Jim Harbaugh. As a result, if these coaches can get their teams to step up and take down the Chiefs this season, then maybe the dynasty is over.
