Long live the NFL king? Chiefs tumble in latest power rankings image

Prior to the 2025 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs had their fair share of doubters when it came to their ability to climb back to the top of the NFL mountain, and the Week 1 performance against the Los Angeles Chargers will see more people leave the bandwagon.

The 27-21 loss was painful viewing, with the Chiefs being outplayed by Justin Herbert and Co., as some think the AFC West will have a different winner in 2025 for the first time in nine years.

Do I subscribe to the fact that the Chiefs are there for the taking? After Week 1, it is hard to suggest not, but let's not overreact to one game, shall we?

But it appears that Eric Edholm of NFL.com thinks the Chiefs could be staring down the barrel of a tough start. In his latest power rankings, Kansas City comes in at No. 5.

"The Chiefs really labored offensively for much of the loss in Brazil before catching a little fire late against the Chargers," Edholm writes. "But with the defense really struggling to get stops, it introduced a relatively new storyline to watch. I was hopeful the offense could regain some of its mojo, but I truly thought the D would be stout. With Philly on tap, K.C. could be in some early heat."

With so many doubting the Chiefs entering the season, for them to look the way they did in Week 1, and now looking at the very real possibility of starting 0-2, things already feel a little tense for Kansas City, and the season has barely begun.

Now, am I writing off the AFC champs? No, I'm not, but their aura of invincibility seems to be dissipating with each passing week, and should the Eagles roll into Arrowhead Stadium and emerge victorious, then we will have to have a serious conversation.

Still, it is early in the season, so there will be no sweeping statements made, but it appears that the once invincible NFL king is beginning to show signs of weakness.
