Anthony Richardson had become an afterthought following the Indianapolis Colts quarterback's placement on injured reserve.

However, there is renewed interest in Richardson's return timeline after quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a torn Achilles that will end his season.

Jones' injury leaves the Colts in a precarious position, as their only signal-callers on the roster are rookie Riley Leonard and veteran Brett Rypien (practice squad).

However, even Leonard's status is now up in the air after he suffered a knee injury in Week 14.

Things are so bad for Indianapolis that the team is trying to lure quarterback Philip Rivers out of retirement.

With the Colts having a major issue at quarterback, here's the latest injury update on Richardson and what we know about his chances of returning in Week 15.

Anthony Richardson injury update

Richardson suffered an orbital bone fracture earlier this season that led to his placement on injured reserve.

The injury occurred in a freak accident that saw Richardson get hit in the face while working with an elastic band in pre-game warm-ups.

"Any time you're dealing with an eye, you want to make sure he's got full vision in that eye," Colts head coach Steichen said. "He's resting it right now, and once he's cleared to go, I'll let you guys know."

Will Anthony Richardson return in Week 15?

While Richardson is eligible to be activated off injured reserve, and has been for weeks now, head coach Shane Steichen said that will not happen this week.

"He won't be this week," Steichen said of Richardson. "He's still working through. Obviously, it's an eye; it's very delicate, and so he's just resting it, and once the doctors and trainers clear him to be activated."

Let's be real here: even if Richardson returns this season, there is zero guarantee he will be able to save the Colts.

After all, Richardson has been ineffective when on the field during his career and the chances of that changing upon his return are slim.
