NFL analyst says Colts 2026 free agent likely to be in high demand image

The Indianapolis Colts’ group of offensive playmakers is one of the best they’ve had in years. It’s one of the reasons why the Colts simply can not fail to perform in 2025.

General manager Chris Ballard is very optimistic about the wide receiver group in particular. Josh Downs is an emerging weapon in the short game, Michael Pittman Jr. is as steady and reliable as they come and Alec Pierce is looking to build off a big year in 2024, despite the Colts making a change at quarterback.

Pierce, who led the league in yards per reception (22.3) last year, is entering a pivotal season in which he becomes a free agent following the campaign. His future with the team is up in the air, especially in a crowded receiver room, meaning Pierce will likely be a hot commodity in free agency, says NFL Daily host Gregg Rosenthal.

In ranking the top 25 upcoming free agents in 2026, Pierce came in at No. 14 on Rosenthal’s list.

“This league is desperate for big plays, and Pierce averaged an NFL-high 22.3 yards per catch in 2024, routinely streaking past defenders deep down the field,” he wrote.

In his three seasons with the Colts, Pierce has totalled 110 receptions for 1,931 yards and 11 touchdowns, seven of which came last year, a career-best. The 25-year-old also picked up 824 yards in 2024, also his most in a season, having a breakout season with Anthony Richardson Sr. as his quarterback.

Now without Richardson under center, the big question for Pierce in 2025 is whether or not he can replicate last season's success working with Daniel Jones. The answer to that question will determine what kind of pay day he gets in March.
