With the beginning of the NFL regular season just days away, all 32 teams around the league are making their final preparations for their season opening matchups.

As the Indianapolis Colts get ready to host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, injuries are an area they’ve been monitoring. Nick Cross (hip) made his return to practice last week, a sign that Lou Anarumo’s defense is nearing full strength ahead of Week 1.

But Anarumo’s defense is still likely to face a formidable challenge. The Dolphins’ offensive three-headed monster of Tyreek Hill (oblique), Darren Waller (returning) and De’Von Achane (calf) are all on track to suit up in Lucas Oil Stadium, according to head coach Mike McDaniel

Hill will be shadowed by Indy’s newest No. 1 corner in Charvarius Ward— a matchup worth watching. Despite coming off a bit of a down year in which Hill didn’t eclipse 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2019, the 31-year-old still racked up 959 yards and six touchdowns on 81 receptions and is a key component of Miami’s passing attack.

Waller, who’s making his comeback after retiring in 2024, also poses a massive receiving threat at tight end, despite potential rust. He’ll be looking to put up similar numbers to his time with the Raiders, where he caught a career-high nine touchdowns in 2020.

As for Achane, he’s likely the biggest threat of the bunch. A savvy runner who’s quick and creative, Achane rushed for 907 yards and six touchdowns despite instability at quarterback.

But Achane’s biggest weapon is his impact in the receiving game. He recorded 78 catches for 592 yards and six touchdowns in 2024.

Without question, Anarumo’s defense must be up to the task when it comes to holding the trio of Hill, Waller and Achane in check if Indianapolis has any shot of snapping their 10-year winless drought in season openers.
