The transactions have come fast and furious with the clock winding down on today's NFL trade deadline. Impact players are switching uniforms at a rapid pace, as many will be acquired by contending teams looking for the pieces of the puzzle to put them over the top.

The Indianapolis Colts (7-2) have been surprise contenders this season, as they lead the AFC South. Now, their defensive unit has gotten stronger with the addition of Sauce Gardner. The team acquired him from the Jets in exchange for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell and two first-round picks (2026, 2027).

Colts GM Chris Ballard issued a statement, discussing how pleased both he and the team are with the trade. Though it seemed likely a hefty price tag, he feels it was a good trade all around.

"Having the opportunity to acquire a player like Sauce Gardner was one we did not want to pass on," Ballard stated. "He was a player we scouted closely coming out of college, and there's a reason he was the fourth overall pick. Sauce is a proven cornerback. His skill and competitive nature will elevate everyone's play on the defensive unit. We're thrilled that he's a Colt."

"On the same note, AD Mitchell is a great person and a great player. We believe he will have success in New York, and we wish him the best as he enters the next chapter of his career."

Gardner was the Jets' first-round pick (fourth overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he blossomed quickly, winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and being named an All-Pro twice. In less than four pro seasons, he has amassed 201 tackles, 46 pass deflections, and three interceptions. He is considered one of the best cover corners in the game today.
