The Indianapolis Colts have an interesting quarterback battle going on between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones. Both signal-callers are out to prove they can be starters in the league, and it will be interesting to see who gets the ball in September.
However, the Colts revealed a not-so-good update on Richardson on Thursday, per the team's official X account.
"Per Shane Steichen - QB Anthony Richardson is dealing with a shoulder injury and will not participate in mini-camp next week."
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network mentioned it is the same AC joint Richardson injured in the 2024 season, so that is a worrisome sign for the Colts QB.
The 2023 No. 4 overall pick played in 11 games last season, throwing for 1,812 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
But, injuring the same AC joint as a year ago is a problem for both parties. And now Jones - the former New York Giants draft bust - will be taking more reps at the QB1 position.
As far as a timeline goes, it remains unclear, but there is hope he can return for training camp, per Colts reporter Mike Chappell.
"Shane Steichen: Anthony Richardson felt pain in right shoulder last week. Same AC joint. Aggravation. Procedure not anticipated. Should be back at some point in training camp."
The Colts also have former Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard on the roster, so he could get some run as well with Richardson out for the foreseeable future.
