Chris Ballard takes firm stance against Anthony Richardson Sr. trade rumors image

Indianapolis Colts general manager says Daniel Jones becoming the team’s new starting quarterback doesn’t mean anything different for Anthony Richardson Sr. He’s not going anywhere.

“We’re not trading him,” Ballard told the media when asked whether or not the Colts had any interest in finding a trade partner.

Ballard remains adamant that the Colts aren’t giving up on the uber-talented quarterback, despite their actions contradicting that sentiment. The Colts benched Richardson in favor of Joe Flacco for two weeks last season before promptly doing a u-turn.

Then, this offseason, Indy signed Jones as competition for Richardson in March. The subsequent selection of Jones as their new starter sparked potential trade talks.

Those rumors meant nothing. Even if Richardson rides the bench this season, the Colts aren’t ready to move on.

"It's easy to say, 'OK, he's done,'" Ballard said of Richardson. "I don't agree. I've said this numerous times. I do not agree with that. I think overcoming challenges and obstacles along the way are good for anybody.”

Riding out and overcoming adversity has been an area the Colts have wanted to see Richardson grow. His recent benching is just the most recent bump in the road.

Only time will tell if he can come out better on the other side.
