The Indianapolis Colts had an aggressive offseason, a change of pace from year’s past under general manager Chris Ballard.
One of the first decisions Ballard made was to sign safety Cam Bynum to a four-year, $60 million contract. The move has paid off so far, as Bynum already has two interceptions through three games with the Colts.
The belief in Indianapolis this offseason was that several of the pieces were in place for the team to become a contender again. All that was needed was stability at the quarterback position and a revamped defense. With Daniel Jones looking like an early Comeback Player of the Year candidate under center and Lou Anarumo implementing a new defensive scheme, the Colts have jumped out to a 3-0 start to the season, surprising many with how impressive they’ve been in the early going.
But this was not a surprise for Bynum whatsoever. He knew as soon as he arrived that the Colts’ potential was through the roof.
At a preseason luncheon, Downs revealed that Bynum told him he believes the Colts can win a Super Bowl.
“As soon as I got here in the offseason, we went through training camp, I knew we were going to be a cold team,” Bynum said on the Downs 2 Business podcast, hosted by Colts wide receiver Josh Downs and his younger brother, Ohio State safety Caleb. “The way we were fighting on defense, the offense has so many weapons.”

Bynum went on to say that any of the offensive playmakers are capable of changing games. Downs, along with back-to-back AFC Offensive Player of the Week Jonathan Taylor, rookie tight end Tyler Warren and Michael Pittman Jr. make up some of the talented pieces at Jones’ disposal.
Through two games, the Colts offense is top five in rushing yards per game (3rd, 153.3), passing yards per game (4th, 265.3) and are yet to turn the ball over.
“There was never a doubt in my mind we would be good, that’s why I felt comfortable saying that at the luncheon,” Bynum said. “I’m not here to get to the playoffs, I’m here to get to a Super Bowl.”
It’s still early in the season, but the Colts currently sit in first place in the AFC South and have the momentum to continue their hot start. A postseason berth would be their first since 2020, and a possible Super Bowl appearance would be their first since 2009.
