Texans hope history repeats but the 2025 schedule looks unforgiving image

If things take a turn for the worse at EverBank Stadium this Sunday, let’s hope the Texans have Marty McFly on speed dial. His settings could transport the franchise back to 2018, the last time they started a season 0-3. Thankfully, during that year, the Texans showed the grit and determination to climb out of that hole, thanks in large part to a mix of Pro Bowl players, including the often-overlooked Lamar Miller and Bernardrick McKinney on both sides of the field. The current roster has similar potential, but the big question is: can the Texans bounce back?

The 2018 team found their rhythm with back-to-back overtime victories, winning with field goals against the Colts and Cowboys. The thrilling nature of those wins, just a week apart, acted as a springboard for their success. They would eventually extend their winning streak to nine games and clinch the AFC South title, securing a playoff spot. This time, however, the Texans face a tougher set of challenges. To build a winning streak, they must first overcome Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Baltimore.

The Ravens have been dominant in this matchup, winning the last five encounters, including a playoff game in 2023 and a Christmas Night showdown last year. Those two games resulted in a staggering combined score of 65-12.

Equally daunting are the Seattle Seahawks, who the Texans will face the week after Baltimore. Seattle has won 4 out of their last 5 matchups, and this year, Sam Darnold is leading the charge. Last year, Darnold torched Houston with four touchdown passes in a lopsided victory with the Vikings. Will the Texans have a better strategy this time around?

As if that two-step challenge wasn’t enough, October will wrap up with the 49ers visiting NRG Stadium. Expect to see Brock Purdy and George Kittle back in action as autumn sets in. To cap it all off, November will see Josh Allen return, and December will bring another trip to Arrowhead, a place that has been a nightmare for the Texans. Oh, did I mention that the regular season concludes with the front-runner Colts?

Better to get a win on the board in week three, as the task will be too great in 2025, even if they can reach Marty McFly.
