The Houston Texans will once again have question marks surrounding their group of wide receivers. Tank Dell is out indefinitely, and Stefon Diggs left for the New England Patriots after playing just half a season in a Texans uniform due to a torn ACL.
Now, the Texans will be heavily leaning on Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, as well as Christian Kirk, to be complements to Nico Collins. With that in mind, Houston still has far too many receivers on their depth chart, one of which has been rumored to be moved for over a year. Cory Woodroof of For The Win thinks a trade finally does happen, and predicts the Texans will trade John Metchie III to the Cincinnati Bengals.
"After their main three wide receivers, the Bengals have a lot of questions with depth on the roster," Woodroof writes. "Metchie has flashed impressive play in his Texans tenure, but he's never been able to consistently carve out a role. Houston has one of the more crowded wideout rooms in the NFL, and Metchie would be an excellent get for Cincinnati at this point in the offseason to compete for the fourth wide receiver spot on the roster. He may well win it. Particularly if injury struck, the Bengals having a solid receiver like Metchie on the roster would be pivotal."
Metchie had 24 catches in 2024 and one touchdown. Considering that he's likely to be buried on the depth chart once again, a new start would make sense for both sides.
