The Houston Texans are 0-2 after a Monday night loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and are now in an early two-game hole behind the 2-0 Indianapolis Colts for first place in the AFC South. Not only are the Texans 0-2, but their quarterback C.J. Stroud doesn't look as good as many expected him to be.
Stroud went 13-of-24 on the night for 207 yards and a touchdown. However, the constant pressure he was under had a lot to do with that. Head coach DeMeco Ryans spoke about this after the game, and his review didn't paint Stroud in a great light.
"I have to check the film," Ryans said when asked about Stroud's performance via DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. “It's a collective effort, but we go two for nine on third down. What do we expect if we can't get the ball in at the goal line? What do we expect is going to happen?”
While the constant pressure Stroud is facing has a lot to do with the Texans' offensive issues, there are those who are pointing out that the protections are Stroud's responsibility to call out at the line of scrimmage, and the adjustments he is or isn't making simply aren't working. This will certainly be something to pay attention to as the season goes on.
