Packers' rookie Matthew Golden should've had 92-yard TD for first NFL touchdown image

Matthew Golden nearly had an epic first NFL touchdown.

Instead, the Green Bay Packers' first-round rookie wide receiver will have to wait.

It was early in the second quarter when Golden took off deep.

The Packers began the play at their 8-yard line, and QB Jordan Love dropped back and launched.

Golden had split two Washington Commanders defenders down the middle of the field.

But the ball was overthrown.

"That had 92-yard TD written all over it. Golden beat two DBs deep and Love sailed it just long," wrote The Athletic's Matt Schneidman on X.

Golden is a special player for Green Bay. He was the first wideout they've chosen in the first round since 2002.

He had two catches in his NFL debut, and the Packers seem to be implementing him slowly. They've got a deep WR corps.

But a play like this at Lambeau Field would've been quite the way to announce his presence to the Packers' fanbase. He would've gotten an exciting Lambeau Leap.

Soon enough, it'll come.
