Packers' Micah Parsons gets unexpected injury update before Week 1 debut vs. Lions image

Micah Parsons stole all the NFL headlines last week when the Dallas Cowboys traded him to the Green Bay Packers.

Now, his Packers debut, slated for Sunday against the Detroit Lions for a big Week 1 NFC North clash, is in doubt due to injury.

ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news of some Parsons injury worry on Monday afternoon.

This is what Schefter wrote on X:

"Packers LB Micah Parsons has been dealing with an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back and he may take an epidural injection prior to Sunday’s game vs. the Lions if needed to help him play, per sources. Before trading Parsons last week, the Cowboys prescribed him a five-day plan of an anti-Inflammatory corticosteroid, a prednisone to help him recover from back tightness. They also had him on a physical therapy program. Parsons has been practicing this week and he is trying to play in Sunday’s opener vs. the Lions, though one source said it still is uncertain if he will."

That sounds pretty painful and pretty annoying.

It's almost certain that the Packers knew about the injury before completing the trade.

Besides, Green Bay didn't make the deal for a week or two. They did it to then sign Parsons to a four-year deal for $47 million per year that makes him the face of their defense for years to come.

It just so happens that it'd be a bummer if Parsons can't take the field in Week 1 to play for the Packers at the first possible opportunity.

A back injury is also one that can recur, so Green Bay has to be careful to not rush Parsons and make sure he's fully healed. It's not the time to be taking risks with their new prized possession.

It's definitely a story that will now be at the front of mind for Packers fans all week. They've got Micah. Now they just want to see him play.
