Packers have 'perfect' trade partner for Romeo Doubs after former first-rounder's sudden retirement image

The Green Bay Packers are banking on a breakout season from quarterback Jordan Love. It’s time for him to establish himself as one of the league’s top signal-callers. If he fails to do so, it could be a tough year in Green Bay.

“It’s Jordan Love time. Only one offensive player on the roster (two-time Pro Bowl guard Elgton Jenkins), and three players in total, predate the quarterback’s time with the team. He’s on a top-of-market deal, so the onus is on him to start lifting his teammates rather than the other way around. The roster’s still solid, but competitions at left tackle and receiver will help set the course for how far the team can go, and Love’s work through any bumps at those spots will be key,” Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote.

However, there’s a real possibility that Love could lose one of his wide receivers during the season or before. Romeo Doubs has been the subject of trade speculation, with growing buzz around the idea that he could be moved. Following the surprise retirement of Mike Williams, the Los Angeles Chargers are now seen as an ideal trade destination.

“The Green Bay Packers would undoubtedly love to keep Romeo Doubs and haven't indicated any intention to trade him, but it's time they did. Now, the perfect destination has emerged. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is surprisingly retiring from the NFL. It's a decision few saw coming, and it leaves the Chargers with a potential problem at wide receiver,” Lombardi Ave’s Freddie Boston wrote.

Williams announced his retirement on Thursday afternoon, taking the NFL world by surprise. He had been preparing for a return to Los Angeles, but that’s no longer in the cards. If the Chargers pursue a new wide receiver, the Packers may be more than willing to send Doubs to L.A.
