The Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are two teams that could use help along the edge.

The Lions had a shaky situation going into the 2025 season, with the team relying on the injury-prone Marcus Davenport to play significant snaps opposite Aidan Hutchinson. Their depth was seriously lacking, also.

Davenport is now dealing with a chest injury and his status is unknown, although the fact that Detroit went for a second opinion suggests, at the very least, that he's going to miss time, which leaves Detroit's edge rusher group in a precarious spot.

The Bucs have a solid one-two punch along the edge in outside linebackers Haason Reddick and Yaya Diaby, but they have only combined for one sack thus far and Tampa Bay could use more depth overall.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox recognizes the issues the Bucs and Lions are facing at EDGE and suggests both teams as possible trade suitors for New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Trading Thibodeaux to a contender this year could give New York the sort of draft capital that would be extremely valuable for a new, rebuilding front office.

Potential Suitors: Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Knox estimates it'll cost a 2026 second-round pick to acquire Thibodeaux. Given his age, production and the amount of interest he's likely to draw, that's certainly possible, although we'd put our money on a third-rounder instead.

Availability has been a bit of an issue for Thibodeaux over his three-plus seasons in the NFL, but when healthy he has proven to be a difference-maker with 22.5 sacks in 45 games.

Thibodeaux still has one more year left on his rookie contract in 2026 thanks to the fifth-year option, but the Giants are likely to get more for the Oregon product now before he hits a contract year.

That said, it's hard to envision New York trading Thibodeaux, even after drafting Abdul Carter.

Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are fighting for their jobs in 2025 and their chances of succeeding and earning more time will take a significant hit if one of the team's best defenders is unloaded.
