After a 7-10 season marred by crucial injuries and coaching incompetence, the Dallas Cowboys are desperate to return to the postseason in a vaunted NFC.
The team's success will hinge on the passing attack, led by the returning Dak Prescott and his elite wide receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and the newly acquired George Pickens.
The squad's ultimate ceiling could be capped by the lack of talent across the roster, emphasizing the need for the development of young players and forcing the front office to be proactive in acquiring high-end assets.
After failing to re-sign Rico Dowdle, the Cowboys' backfield is in disarray, with free agent bargain bin signings Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders expected to get a bulk of the work early in the campaign.
One analyst thinks "America's Team" should target a franchise running back that could give this offense some much-needed juice.
In a recent piece for Bleacher Report, NFL writer Moe Moton proposed sending Cowboys' pass catcher Jalen Tolbert and a fourth-round pick to the Jets in exchange for star running back Breece Hall.
"When you consider quarterback Justin Fields' ability as a ball-carrier, Gang Green can afford to trade Hall for draft capital, especially if the team doesn't expect to retain him in free agency next offseason," Moton wrote. "The Jets can trade Hall for a middle-round draft pick and Tolbert, who can immediately bolster their wide receiver unit while still maintaining a robust ground attack with Allen, Davis, and Fields leading the charge."
With Dallas' current offensive line situation, defenses would still prioritize defending Pickens and Lamb on the outside, leaving an emptier box for Hall to exploit.
The Iowa State product would thrive with a much better unit around him and possesses the blend of athleticism and physicality that this club sorely lacks.
