What will it take to get the Dallas Cowboys to agree to a contract extension with Micah Parsons?
After earning All-Pro honors in two of his first four seasons and taking a trip to the Pro Bowl in all four years since becoming a first-round pick, there’s no doubt he’s one of the NFL’s best defenders. Soon enough, he’ll have a contract to match.
While the season doesn’t start until September, there should be a certain sense of urgency for Parsons, who’s entering the final year of his rookie contract. Yet, the Cowboys have been slow to act with their 25-year-old superstar.
How important is it for Parsons to sign his contract extension before the Cowboys break for training camp?
"It's extremely important," Parsons said. "You really see a lot of players struggle, guys aren't participating in camp and get off to slow starts," Parsons said Tuesday night. "I don't want to get off to no slow starts. I want to hit the ground running and establish ourselves in this league and get some wins early in the season and be in rhythm. It's going to be extremely important to get going and lead these guys."

Once Parsons does sign, he’s expected to become the NFL’s highest-paid defender, putting him in line to receive a contract worth just over $40 million per season. Naturally, the Cowboys are more focused on the 2025 NFL Draft for now, but after the three-day event ends on Saturday, perhaps talks with Parsons will heat up. Based on his comments, he sure seems to hope so.
