Why Micah Parsons trade forced Cowboys to sign Jadeveon Clowney image

The Dallas Cowboys lost an edge rusher and now they've gained one.

Jerry Jones announced after the win over the Giants that the Cowboys have signed Jadeveon Clowney. The 32-year-old most recently spent last season with the Carolina Panthers.

It's a move that addresses a need the team has faced since trading Micah Parsons. The All-Pro edge rusher accounted for at least 12 sacks all four of his years in Dallas. Clowney had 46 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks, 11 QB hits and nine tackles for loss in 14 games played last season.

Clowney, a three-time Pro Bowler, should add a veteran presence to a young defensive end room.

If Parsons was still in Dallas, there's a good chance the Cowboys don't pursue Clowney's services. But with him in the fold it adds another element to their defensive rushers.

Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus has also shown a loyalty to zone defense and four-man rushes which makes this signing even more critical.

If Clowney can show flashes of what he was early in his career this could be a great signing for Dallas.
