The Carolina Panthers were hoping to see former first-round pick and wide receiver Xavier Legette take a step forward in 2025, but so far that has not happened through two games.

Legette's catch rate is even more abysmal than it was last season and he has just four catches for eight yards over two contests this season. The South Carolina product was then ruled out for Week 3 due to a hamstring issue.

If this keeps up, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes Carolina might look to unload the embattled wide receiver, and Knox thinks the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns could come calling if that happens.

Knox also believes that Legette could fetch a 2026 third-round pick, which feels unlikely given how poorly Legette's career is going.

While Legette's tape isn't great, he's still a physically impressive 6'3", 227-pound pass-catcher with an intriguing amount of upside. His trade value would be buoyed by his first-round rookie contract.

Potential Suitors: Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns

It's probably too soon for the Panthers to give up on Legette, but let's not forget that the Panthers have done something like that before.

Last season, the Panthers unloaded second-year wideout Jonathan Mingo after just 24 games with the team. The Cowboys were on the other end of that trade, which has been an utter failure for Dallas and a success for Carolina.

The Cowboys do have a wide receiver problem currently, as CeeDee Lamb is slated to miss multiple weeks with a high-ankle sprain, leaving George Pickens and not much else.

Injured reserve is a possibility for the star receiver, and the longer he's out, the more likely it is the Cowboys add another wideout.

That said, they might be very hesitant to deal with the Panthers again given the results of the Mingo trade, although if Legette comes cheap, that could lead to Dallas springing for him.

The Browns are less likely to make such a trade.

Legette wouldn't be any better than what the Browns currently have in Jerry Jeudy and Cedric Tillman, and it wouldn't make much sense for a rebuilding team like Cleveland to give up draft capital for a player who doesn't move the needle and won't alter what is shaping up to be another lost season.

All that said, teams that don't have a clear need at wide receiver might have interest in the 24-year-old if his price is cheap, but we don't think the Panthers will sell him for pennies on the dollar and will hold on to Legette instead.
