The Dallas Cowboys are prioritizing signing players to contract extensions before the season gets underway. The first to get an extension was tight end Jake Ferguson. Micah Parsons was expected to be next, but Jerry Jones complicated those plans by not allowing Parsons’ agent to participate in the negotiations.

“The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys operated with pure arrogance, foolishness and stubbornness,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted.

Despite the tension within the organization, quarterback Dak Prescott believes Parsons will stay in Dallas.

“No. Not necessarily,” Prescott said. “I think if I wouldn’t have been in his shoes, and watched other guys be in his shoes and get rewarded, maybe. But I’ve got faith in the Joneses and the team, as I do in Micah and his team. Eleven is a Cowboy.”

While Parsons may not be close to a deal, cornerback Daron Bland is currently in talks with the Cowboys about an extension.

“On Tuesday, Bland said that he and the Cowboys have had ‘some talks’ about an extension and hopes to get something done before Dallas opens the season on September 4,” Cowboys reporter Tommy Yarrish wrote.

Though things appear to be progressing better for Bland than for Parsons, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio believes Bland’s next contract will be life-changing.

“He had nine interceptions in an All-Pro season of 2023 and returned a record five for touchdowns, and now, two years later, he’s close to a second contract that will set him up for life,” Florio wrote.

If Florio is right, Bland is in line for a hefty contract. The Cowboys are working to lock down their key players, and it sounds like they view Bland as one of them. Bland will aim to prove he earned the money once the season starts, trying to replicate his 2023 performance, where he led the league in interceptions.
