The Dallas Cowboys have recently been in the news over contracts. The franchise decided to move on from star EDGE rusher Micah Parsons, and traded him to the Green Bay Packers.
While the move was lamented by Dallas fans, the long-term effects of the move is that it frees up money that would be needed for the historic extension, and that money can be used on other star players.
Kickers are rarely thought of when someone mentions star players, but you have to give credit where credit is due. Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has developed into one of the best kickers in the entire NFL, with many claiming he is the best overall.
Aubrey played college soccer and didn't find football until he joined the UFL in 2022. After spending two years in the league, he was signed by Dallas in 2023. Fast forward two years and the Cowboys have arguably the best kicker in the league, playing on a very cheap deal since they signed him after his second UFL season ended.

Brandon Aubrey free agency
Dallas can't afford to let Aubrey hit free agency. He has shown that he is reliable and has one of the strongest legs in the league. Aubrey kicked a 65-yard field goal in 2024, and hit a 64-yard field goal in 2025. He has singlehandedly won the Cowboys games in his short tenure with the franchise.

The Cowboys have made some head-scratching decisions with free agency recently. They didn't go after running backs Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry when they were free agents ahead of the 2024 season, and recently moved on from Parsons because they didn't want to pay him. Dallas will likely have to make Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, but he has shown in a little over two seasons that he is as worth it as anyone else.
