The Chicago Bears 0-2 to start the 2025 NFL season and they are in must-win territory on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback Caleb Williams has been in the spotlight early on in the 2025 season for Chicago.
In the first two games, the Bears have scored on opening drive touchdowns, but the offense gets out of rhythm after the first drive. There are bigger issues with the franchise than just him. The defense has not looked good at all during the first two games of this season. If the Bears drop to 0-3, could this team potentially bench Williams? It would be hard to believe that head coach Ben Johnson would make a power move like that so early in the season.
NFL Analyst Believes Chicago Bears Caleb Williams Should Not Be Benched Anytime Soon
During the show Get Up on ESPN on Thursday morning, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky was debating about what possibly happens if Williams struggles against the Cowboys this weekend. Orlovsky had a very interesting take and said,
"I need everybody to take a breath on Caleb Williams. Can we just give the young man until November?"
Williams has completed 61.5% of his passes for 417 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception so far this season. He has also rushed for 85 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 7.7 yards per carry. Dallas has one of the worst defenses in the NFL throughout the first two weeks of this season.
If the Bears were to lose again to the Cowboys, there is no doubt that the Chicago media is going to ask Johnson if he is going to bench Williams for Tyson Bagent. This is something that he should not do this early in the season. If this move were to be made, then it could potentially mean that this franchise is already giving up on him.
There are other problems with this team, and the defense has not played well through the first two weeks. If the Bears lose 42-41 to the Cowboys this weekend, there is no need to bench Williams. Orlovsky is correct that people should wait until November to see if this is going to work out for the franchise for the long-term.
