When is Tyler Bass coming back? Latest injury update on Buffalo Bills kicker image

The Buffalo Bills were dealt an unexpected injury blow at kicker early in the season when Tyler Bass was placed on injured reserve prior to Week 1.

Bass was placed on injured reserve due to hip and groin injuries. He had battled a pelvic injury during training camp but looked to be healthy before the start of the season before popping up on the injury report in the week leading up to Week 1.

The Bills signed kicker Matt Prater to take his place. Prater delivered with a game-winning field goal in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens, which immediately endeared him to Bills fans.

But Prater is off to a rough start in Week 3 after completely shanking a close field goal attempt in the second quarter, and that has many wondering when Bass is coming back.

Here's what we know.

When it Tyler Bass coming back?

With Bass starting the season on injured reserve, he's going to miss at least the first four games of the 2025 campaign.

That means the earliest he can return is in Week 5 against the New England Patriots, which falls on Sunday, Oct. 5.

So far, there has been nothing to suggest that Bass will need more time than that, but that hasn't been confirmed by the team.

Prior to his miss on Thursday night, Prater was 6-for-6 on field goals and 5-for-5 on extra points. He also became the oldest player in franchise history to play in a game for Buffalo.

Bass has been a steady leg for Buffalo since joining the team as a sixth-round pick in 2020. He is expected to return to his role once healthy.
