The Buffalo Bills are hoping to avoid consecutive losses for the second time this season. At 7-4, they hold the final wild card seed in the AFC playoff picture heading into Sunday. They trail the New England Patriots by three games, meaning the most likely path they have to the playoffs is as a wild card team. If they want to get there, though, they will be doing it without one of their wide receivers.
The Bills have placed Curtis Samuel on injured reserve and have signed Gabe Davis to the active roster. Samuel will miss at least the next four games, and it looks very likely he could be out for the remainder of the season.
Samuel signed a three-year, $24 million deal in 2024 - a contract that he certainly has not lived up to. Since joining the Bills, he has missed 10 games - a number that will grow to at least 14 by the end of the season. So at best, he will have played in just over half of all games in two years. He's caught 38 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns in that span. Considering what he is being paid, this is abysmal production and a complete waste of resources on a guy who can't stay on the field, and isn't productive when he is on the field.
Buffalo takes on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13, where a win and some help could bolster them to the top of the AFC wild card standings.
