Bills have worrying 'trend to watch' ahead of playoff push image

The Buffalo Bills' come-from-behind win over the Cincinnati Bengals was good for the soul as Josh Allen put on the Superman cape and willed his team to a win.

But it wasn't all good news for the Bills, as a worrying trend has emerged over the past two weeks.

Running back James Cook has been superb all season, rushing for 1,308 yards and eight touchdowns, but in the last two games, Cook has had four fumbles (two in each game).

Considering that in his previous 11 games before his fumble issues, Cook had just two, that's a little alarming.

And for ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, James' fumble issues is a trend to watch.

"James Cook's fumbling woes," Getzenberg wrote. "Cook had two fumbles on the day, and the one he lost was critical, as the ball fell out of his hands as he approached the end zone. A score would have given the Bills their first lead of the day. The fourth-year back now has six fumbles on the season and three lost, a career high."

Cook's fumble issues now a problem

Granted, Sunday's two fumbles could have been due to the snow, but still, James is usually so sure-handed with the ball, and the fact that he's now had multiple fumbles in back-to-back games is troubling.

Another aspect of this is the mental game that will now be going on above the shoulders, not just for Cook but for defenders as well. They know Cook is a little loose with the ball, so defenders, especially this week (Mike Vrabel's Patriots), will be doing all they can to punch that ball out.

And don't worry, James will be well-aware of his fumbles, too.

Having been the offense's major weapon, now there's a little doubt in the mind as the Bills enter the home stretch with their playoff spot still not assured.

And the last thing this team needs is for its Pro Bowl running back to have a case of the fumbles right when they need him the most.
