Thanks to Derrick Henry, the Baltimore Ravens are set to have one of the best running back rooms in the NFL heading into the 2025 campaign.
Henry was sensational for the Ravens in his first season and fully put to bed fears of a possible decline as he crossed over into his 30s.
Henry finished second in the NFL in rushing yards and might've won Offensive Player of the Year honors if not for the historic season by Philadelphia Eagles rusher Saquon Barkley.
If there's one hole we can poke in Henry's game, it's his abilities as a pass-catcher. The former second-round pick has proven to be a weak link in that area during his illustrious career.
Thankfully, the Ravens already have a few solid options who can offer help in that area in Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell, although Mitchell in particular has had issues staying healthy during his career.
Despite the overall positive situation Baltimore has in its backfield, Justin Melo of The Draft Network believes the team should make a trade for Jacksonville Jaguars running back, Travis Etienne.
The Baltimore Ravens finished first in the league in rushing last season, averaging 187.6 yards per game. That number was obviously a result of having Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson, the most dynamic duo, at their disposal. Henry signed an extension this offseason, so there's every reason to believe the Ravens' run game will be incredibly dangerous again in 2025.
Henry has never been a natural pass-catcher and the Ravens lack ideal depth behind him. Justice Hill rushed for just 228 yards in 2024. Keaton Mitchell came back from a 2023 torn ACL last season, but failed to showcase any returning juice. The jury is still out on Rasheen Ali, who hasn't established himself as a legit NFLer yet. Etienne would immediately seize the No. 2 role behind Henry.
There are multiple reasons to believe the Jaguars could trade Etienne, with the first being the fact that he's entering the final year of his $12 million rookie contract.
Adding to that, Etienne has not been as effective since an impressive rookie season, he's coming off a campaign in which he outshined by Tank Bigsby, and the Jaguars added another running back in the 2025 NFL draft in Bayshul Tuten.
Adding Etienne would give the Ravens a passing-down specialist who can make a big impact as a pass-catcher and can step into a full-time starting role if Henry is forced to miss time due to injury. However, there are definitely concerns about Etienne as a blocker, where he has struggled during his career.
While an Etienne trade is definitely plausible, him going to the Ravens remains unlikely.
We tend to believe the Ravens are content with the backfield situation they have already, so it wouldn't make much sense to give up any draft capital for a player who would be a luxury as opposed to a necessity.
