Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, whose offense has struggled this season, is emerging as a surprising candidate in the search to replace Mike Gundy as Oklahoma State Cowboys head coach.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted on Sunday that Robinson, who played quarterback under Gundy at Oklahoma State and is in his second year as Atlanta's OC, is expected to be "on the very shortlist for Gundy's former head coaching job."

Rapoport added:

"OSU athletics director Chad Weiberg has retained a search firm, TurnkeyZRG, to help facilitate the search to replace Gundy, who turned the program into a perennial winner. Robinson, in his second year as Falcons OC, is slated to figure prominently. Sources close to the search say there has been no contact yet between Robinson and OSU."

Gundy was dismissed shortly after completing the third game of his 21st season as Oklahoma State's head coach.

Now, coming to Robinson's situation, his Falcons offense is struggling, and the team holds a 1-2 record. It remains uncertain whether he would be interested in the Oklahoma State coaching position.

He has already garnered support from an Oklahoma State legend. Dez Bryant, who played alongside Robinson for three seasons in Stillwater, tweeted shortly after Gundy's firing:

"Oklahoma State, let's make Zac Robinson the head coach!"
