Darnell Mooney injury update: Latest news on Falcons' WR's hamstring problem in Week 4 image

The Atlanta Falcons were in surprising control of their Sunday matchup with the Washington Commanders through three quarters.

But there was one piece of news that wasn't any good.

Number two wide receiver Darnell Mooney was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Mooney's official out designation came about half an hour after he was originally called questionable to return.

It's not ideal for a tricky injury like a hamstring to move in the wrong direction like this.

The Falcons wouldn't necessarily need Mooney the rest of Sunday.

They were having success throwing the ball all over. Michael Penix Jr. was finding Drake London down the field, Kyle Pitts in the red zone and Bijan Robinson for a 69-yard catch and run.

But going forward, for Atlanta to reach its ceiling, it needs Mooney out there.

He already missed a large chunk of the summer and then the opening stages of this season with a different injury.

His injury prone-ness is becoming a problem for the Falcons.

They don't have a ton of WR depth, and so a sooner-rather-than-later Mooney return could be crucial to how good Penix and the Atlanta passing offense can be the rest of the season.
