Former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones got his chance to prove that he could still be a starting quarterback in the league when he started for the injured Brock Purdy when San Fransisico faced the New Orleans Saints last Sunday.

Jones not only led the 49ers to victory but also proved his doubters wrong, who thought he was washed up after leaving the New England Patriots.

Jones proved he could still ball, throwing for 279 yards, three touchdowns, and hitting almost 67 percent of his passes.

One person who was really impressed by Jones was Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young.

On an appearance on Wednesday on radio station KNBR, Young sang the praises of the former Alabama quarterback.

"Tactically, situationally, you can go after Kyle a little bit," Young said, "but he's the best at getting people prepared to play quarterback, to make it as easy as possible and see you thrive. You're never gonna be a better quarterback anywhere in the league than you are when you're in San Francisco."

Many had thought, including 49ers great Joe Montana, that Jones would be drafted by the team and would have been a perfect fit for their system, but they skipped over Jones and picked Trey Lance, who was eventually beat out for the starting role by Brock Purdy.

With Purdy still out, maybe another week, Jones can continue to show the rest of the league why the 49ers should have picked him in the first round. But for now, as Young stated, the most important thing is that he gets this opportunity to continue to improve and prove himself as a starter.

“Mac gets the benefit of being here and seeing how good he can get, because that's the promise. If you can come here, we'll see how good you are, and he's willing to take that chance, so it's good for him."

"He's a good player," Young said. "And now, he gets a chance."
