Texas might still be clinging to College Football Playoff hopes, but Arch Manning's early season dip has struck a nerve, especially with NFL executives. The Longhorns have to come up with some unbelievable wins and it has helped keep them with two losses. However, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning needs more time to cook in Austin.
“Guys are allowed to get better as players,” an NFL executive told The Athletic.
Everyone was out to get the 21-year-old signal-caller after the season opener against Ohio State. Yet, all of the criticism wasn't fair and some in the league agree. “We judged him off his, what, first three games in college football and said he’s a bust? He’s been getting better.”
If Texas can somehow win out in the rest of the 2025 season, they'll get in the College Football Playoff and look like a force in the SEC. They'll have to beat No. 5 Georgia this weekend, along with possibly handing No. 3 Texas A&M their first loss of the season in two weeks. A tall order for Manning and Co., but also one that will push them towards the top.
In general, Texas is a team that we haven’t seen a complete game from. If we're being honest, that needs to start this weekend. Regardless, Manning would benefit from more development from here on out.

“Shocker, a guy who had never started in major college football didn’t get off to a race-car start," another NFL executive said about Manning. "It’s all still in front of him.”
Outside of NFL circles, Manning's stock took a hit both on and off the field. He lost $1.2 million in the latest NIL Valuation. Not to mention, ESPN's Bill Connely has him at No. 35 overall among FBS quarterbacks, which is currently ninth for SEC passers.
Will the Longhorns be able to overcome their early season losses? This game against Georgia could be a teaching moment for Manning as well.
No. 10 Texas faces No. 5 Georgia in the SEC's Game of the Week (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
