Arch Manning live stats: Texas offense has bad game, but defense propels Longhorns to win image

JUMP TO:

Though No. 21 Texas picked up its second consecutive win, quarterback Arch Manning did not have a good day in Lexington.

In the Longhorns’ 16-13 overtime victory, the quarterback completed less than 50% of his passes, finishing with 132 yards and no touchdowns on the day. Texas was able to pull out the win, but the offense only had 179 yards from scrimmage.

Texas’ defense was once again the star of the show. After allowing six points to John Mateer and Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, the unit allowed 10 against the Wildcats.

The Longhorns advanced to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the SEC. For Manning, it will be about elevating his play down the stretch.

The Sporting News tracked all of Manning’s play from Saturday night. Check out the action below.

How did Arch Manning play today?

Texas might have won the game, but Manning did not have a good day. He finished with a poor stat line, completing 12-of-27 passes for 132 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions,.

Manning’s offensive line did not help him, as many times he did not have time to throw. The quarterback often was hit right after his release; on the night, he was sacked three times.

The Texas offense had a total of 179 yards on the night while Kentucky had 395. Though, the Longhorns defense, which entered the night allowing less than 10 points per game, stifled Kentucky when it mattered. This included a crucial goal line stop to keep Kentucky scoreless on the first possession of overtime.

What’s most important for Texas is the win, but if Manning and the Lomghorns offense does not elevate their play, it’s hard to consider them a national championship contender.

Arch Manning live updates, highlights from Texas vs. Kentucky

10:33 p.m.: We're going to overtime in Lexington, with Kentucky drilling a game-tying field goal.

10:26 p.m.: Manning and the Texas offense drove down the field, but clock management by the Longhorns will give Kentucky just under a minute to work with.

Though, Shipley hits a field goal to give Texas a 13-10 lead with 0:57 left.

10:22 p.m.: On 3rd & 7, Manning stands in the pocket and hits Deandre Moore Jr. over the middle of the field for a first down.

The Longhorns can essentially run out the clock before attempting a game-winning field goal.

10:13 p.m.: The Texas special teams just set up Manning in opposition territory with under three minutes to go.

Ryan Niblett, who had a punt return touchdown last week against Oklahoma, rattles off a 40+ yard return, and Manning and the Texas offense is right outside the Kentucky 40.

10:06 p.m.: The Texas offense still can't get anything going, and Manning has missed a few throws.

Kentucky has the ball back with the score 10-10 and 6:38 remaining.

9:50 p.m.: Facing a 3rd & 5, Manning is rushed by Kentucky and throws to a receiver, but it falls incomplete. The quarterback was rocked on the hit.

9:44 p.m.: Kentucky has tied the game at 10, and Texas is under pressure in the fourth quarter.

Manning and the offense will get the ball back with 12:04 remaining.

9:35 p.m.: It continues to be a rough night for the Texas offensive line, and on a 3rd & 10, Manning once again gets sacked for -8 yards. Texas will punt again to start the fourth quarter.

9:24 p.m: Manning continues to be pressured, and the Kentucky defense gets to him again on 3rd & 6. He tries to hit Mosley as he's falling down but never really had a chance.

Texas kicker Mason Shipley hits a 53-yard field goal to give the Longhorns a 10-3 lead.

9:22 p.m.: On 2nd & 5, Manning has his first big play of the second half, hitting Emmett Mosley V over the middle of the field. Mosley takes it all the way down to the Kentucky 39.

Manning is now over 100 yards on the night.

9:06 p.m. -- Coming out of halftime, Texas went with three straight runs, only one of which was by Manning. He only picked up one yard, short of the first down and the Longhorns had to punt to open the second half.

Halftime -- Texas 7, Kentucky 0

8:44 p.m. -- Texas' defense once again came up big, not allowing any points. When Manning and the offense got the ball back, they just kneeled the ball to head into halftime.

8:31 p.m. -- Texas' defense got an interception to get the ball back. After three straight runs by Christian Clark, the game hit the two-minute timeout, and the Longhorns were on the Wildcats' 33-yard line.

On the other side of the timeout, the quarterback was sacked for a six-yard loss. Manning missed Ryan Wingo and despite another good series with good field position, Texas is punting.

8:13 p.m. -- Kentucky had a three-and-out, so Manning and the Longhorns get the ball back quickly. The punt was returned to the Kentucky 5-yard line, setting up amazing field position for Texas.

Manning ran the ball on first down and picked up four yards. He then had an incompletion before Quintrevion Wisner punched it in for a one-yard score. The touchdown was reviewed, and it was determined he fumbled, but Texas' DJ Campbell recovered it.

8:05 p.m. -- After the defense forced a punt, Manning wasted no time in having a big play. He hit Jordan Washington for a 25-yard gain to get to the Texas 45-yard line. Manning then missed his wide receiver on the second play of the drive.

The Texas QB had another big play, finding DeAndre Moore Jr. for a 19-yard gain after a short gain from Ryan Niblett. Manning was forced to scramble, but managed to pick up three yards to get down to the Kentucky 36. He then had a completion for a loss of a yard, and then a run for a one-yard loss to bring up fourth down. The Longhorns decided to punt yet again.

7:40 p.m.: On a 3rd & 6, Manning misses Ryan Wingo on a drag route. He threw it high of the receiver, who would have picked up some yards after the catch.

Texas punts for the second straight time to open the game.

7:38 p.m.: Texas' offensive line has been a subject of discussion, and it gives up the first sack of the night on a 1st & 10. Manning didn't have time to look downfield before he was brought down from Kentucky defenders.

7:32 p.m.: The Texas defense gave up six points to John Mateer and Oklahoma a week ago, and it started off this game with two straight stops.

It's 0-0 as Manning begins his second drive.

7:24 p.m.: Manning has his first big play of the day, scrambling for 14 yards on a 3rd & 8 to keep the Longhorns offense moving.

7:20 p.m.: Kentucky came up scoreless after a lengthy first drive, and now it's Manning and Texas' turn.
