Texas A&M dominated LSU in Baton Rouge on Saturday night, 49-25, keeping their undefeated season alive.

The Aggies are now 8-0 on the year and in prime position to not only play in the SEC Championship but also earn a high seed in the College Football Playoff. After missing out on the 12-team playoff last year, Texas A&M came back this year even better and determined to make the field.

In the process, the Aggies are putting together one of their best seasons in program history. Texas A&M has had brief moments of huge success, but it's been a while since they were true national championship contenders.

Here's a look back at the best seasons in Texas A&M history.

There were six instances in which the Aggies had either 11 or more wins or 10 wins with no losses. Of those seasons, the most recent was 2012, when Johnny Manziel led the Aggies to an 11-2 season and a Cotton Bowl victory.

While the Aggies won two national championships in 1919 and 1939, their best season in modern history came in 1992, which was also the last time they started 8-0. That year, Texas A&M won a program-record 12 games and finished the regular season 12-0, but lost in the Cotton Bowl.

Has Texas A&M ever gone undefeated?

The Aggies have gone undefeated seven times in their history, but many of those seasons came in the early 1900s. Of those seven seasons, four included one tie, and five times they finished with nine wins or fewer.

Therefore, only twice has Texas A&M won double-digit games, had no ties, and finished undefeated. In 1919, Texas A&M finished the year 10-0, and in 1939 they went 11-0, both of which also happen to be the school's only two national championships.
