Vols flex their depth with turnovers, explosive plays, and a punishing ground attack
The lights were bright in Knoxville, but there was never much doubt who would shine. Tennessee handled its business Saturday night, rolling past UAB in a 56-24 rout that showcased defensive pressure and an offense firing on all cylinders. It wasn’t just a win, it was a statement.
Tennessee’s defense set the tone early. Andre Turrentine jumped a pass from former SEC quarterback Jalen Kitna, setting up momentum that never slowed. Later, Boo Carter jarred the ball loose, and Kaleb Beasley scooped it up for a score. Those plays sent Neyland Stadium into a frenzy and reminded fans of what aggressive defense can do.
On offense, the Vols spread the wealth. Star Thomas added a touchdown on a crafty shovel pass, while Mike Matthews turned heads with a perfectly placed deep strike. The running game was just as lethal, with three different backs finding the end zone and pushing Tennessee’s total well past 200 rushing yards.
Even a deflected interception meant little in the grand scheme. Tennessee kept pouring it on, proving depth and execution can outweigh minor mistakes.
Now, the Vols shift focus to Mississippi State before a well-timed bye week. If this performance is any indication, Tennessee is ready for the grind of SEC play.
