Lane Kiffin’s four-word message gave Ole Miss fans another opportunity to be mad at him image

Lane Kiffin just gave Ole Miss fans another reason to be frustrated as the Rebels prepare for their College Football Playoff opener.

Days after leaving Oxford for LSU, the former Ole Miss coach publicly cheered for his old program to chase a national championship. It was a gesture that may not land smoothly with a fan base still raw with emotions from his exit.

“Go win it all,” Kiffin replied on a tweet from ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Tuesday. This was in response to the news that five assistants who will join him at LSU are staying with Ole Miss through the Playoff.

The group includes offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., tight ends coach Joe Cox, wide receivers coach George McDonald, assistant quarterbacks coach Dane Stevens and slot receivers coach Sawyer Jordan.

There is also a financial component. According to The Advocate, LSU agreed to pay Kiffin what he “would have been entitled to receive” had he remained at Ole Miss during the CFP. There's a bonus scale ranging from $150,000 for a first-round appearance to $1 million if the Rebels win the national title.

Ole Miss faces an unlikely path, beginning with Tulane before a likely quarterfinal rematch with Georgia. With its offensive staff intact, the Rebels enter the postseason with firepower behind quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy. 

Despite the complicated breakup, Kiffin is publicly rooting them on or really trolling. It's hard to tell at this point.
