With the exception of a little turbulence out of the gate, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have enjoyed a solid campaign through the first two months of the 2025 season. Marcus Freeman's program has rattled off five consecutive victories, with an average winning score of 42-16.
Of course, Notre Dame has expectations that greatly exceed its current 5-2 record. Irish fans have just started getting over the 27-24 loss to No. 9 Miami in Week 1 and the 41-40 heartbreaker against No. 3 Texas A&M two weeks later. With no currently-ranked teams on the remainder of Notre Dame's schedule, the squad will need to continue its strong run if it wants a shot at the title.
Scoring has certainly not been a problem. Through seven games, the Irish rank 11th in the nation with over 39 points per game. Quarterback CJ Carr sits among the NCAA leaders in yards per attempt, yards per completion and passing efficiency rating. Jeremiyah Love has 758 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns. Malachi Fields averages a whopping 18.3 yards per catch.
So, what's next for Notre Dame? First, a much-needed week off. Then, the home stretch toward the playoffs, which begins with a Nov. 1 showdown with Boston College in Chestnut Hill.
Needless to say, the next two months will dictate whether Notre Dame is a true National Championship contender or a pretender. So, this bye week will be crucial to get the Fighting Irish ready to continue rocking their opponents.
