Top college football coaches currently chasing playoff aspirations are being rumored to several current open coaching jobs. Marcus Freeman might be growing tired of answering coaching rumor questions. According to 247Sports, the head coach’s responses are getting chippy.

Notre Dame currently sits in the No. 9 spot in both the AP Top 25 and the college football playoff bracket. With only three games remaining on the regular season schedule, Notre Dame needs to just take care of business, and they should end up with a favorable position in the playoff.

Notre Dame’s upcoming game versus No. 22 Pitt is the last ranked opponent they will face. Leaving only a scrappy Syracuse team and Stanford to round out the season. However, Fighting Irish head coach continues to answer coaching rumor questions despite being adamant that he is not interested in any head coaching vacancies.

“If my name is being mentioned for another job, that’s somebody else’s noise,” Freeman told the media, per On3 Sports. “That ain’t the noise that Marcus Freeman is putting in his mind.”

Freeman choosing to speak in third person is a new twist and a possible sign Freeman is getting annoyed. Freeman is often rather matter of fact with his comments. Many will jump to Freeman has an important decision to make after Notre Dame’s playoff run. However, in the case of Freeman, this might just be a case of ‘take me at my word’.

Often in the world of sports and sports media, asking the question is expected. What happens when those asking the questions don’t like or accept the answer. From the beginning of open head coaching job speculation, Freeman has been consistent that he has no interest in leaving South Bend for any other job.

College football is changing. Programs with storied histories, a track record of putting players in the NFL and a history of winning are no longer writing their own ticket. Teams that can generate NIL revenue are just as much a contender for personnel in this new landscape. However, Freeman and Notre Dame feel like one of those pairings that is not going to jump at another opportunity just because it's another opportunity.

Notre Dame travels to Pitt this week. The game will kick off at Noon ET and broadcast on ABC.
