Now that week 3 of the college football season has wrapped up, here is what we learned.
Texas has an Arch Manning problem
The young quarterback continues to struggle, even against teams he should have no problem with. It’s getting to the point where you have to wonder if Texas head coach Steve Sarkansian should consider benching him if he doesn’t improve. Maybe the pressures of having the last name of Manning are getting to him.
Ty Simpson may be the best quarterback in the SEC
There are a lot of great quarterbacks in this league, but Simpson may be the best. The biggest question coming into this season was how good was Ty Simpson? Well, we are finding out, he’s pretty good. In his last game against Louisiana Monroe, he was 17 for 17. Well, it was against a lesser opponent, but against a Wisconsin team with a fairly good defense, he torched them for nearly 400 yards and four touchdowns and no turnovers. In fact, he’s thrown nine touchdowns and zero picks to start the season. Simpson will get a test, however, in two weeks in Athens against Georgia. Speaking of Georgia…
Where is the defense in the SEC?
The SEC was known for their defenses, but several teams, including Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M, all gave up 40 points yesterday. Three out of the four, however, won. The only teams that played good defense Saturday were Oklahoma, Alabama, and LSU.
Notre Dame may be out of the CFP
The Irish are 0-2, and with a weak schedule ahead, they may not make it into the playoffs this year. And by the way, let’s give credit where credit is due. Texas A&M went on the road and did what they had to do, and they may make some noise in the SEC this year
Clemson is overrated
So many people pick the Clemson Tigers to win the national championship, but after their loss to Georgia Tech, which is a very good football team by the way, like the Irish, may be on the outside looking in at the College Football Playoff.
We still don’t know how good LSU is
As impressive as the Tigers have looked defensively, their offense hasn’t impressed most, plus they’ve beaten two teams that appear to be slightly overrated in Clemson and Florida. The Gators are in trouble, by the way, and look horrible.
There are still plenty of games yet to play, but certain teams are starting to emerge as contenders, while the rest look like pretenders.
