Riding the momentum of a co-championship in the OVC and a trip to the FCS Playoffs, the Tennessee State Tigers are set to welcome North Carolina A&T for the annual John A. Merritt Classic at Nissan Stadium on Monday.

Tennessee State rides into the new campaign after sharing a league crown and punching its ticket to the FCS playoffs. At Tennessee State, much of the spotlight falls on its revamped coaching staff.

Head coach Eddie George has assembled a seasoned group of assistants, highlighted by Shannon Harris, who will juggle responsibilities as TSU’s offensive coordinator while also working with the UFL’s Memphis Showboats.

Adding further depth for the Tigers is Toriano Morgan, a proud TSU graduate and former Edward Waters head coach, whose strong HBCU connections bring both experience and credibility to the program.

On the other side, North Carolina A&T is on a mission to reclaim its place among the nation’s HBCU heavyweights, following seasons marred by coaching upheaval and consecutive winless runs in the CAA.

For head coach Vincent Brown’s group, the emphasis isn’t strictly on tallying victories just yet, it’s about laying a foundation of consistent progress and restoring pride to the program.
