Liberty finished the 2024 season with an 8-4 record after losing the final two games of the campaign. It wasn't the result the Flames had hopes for after starting the season 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference.
The 2025 season is a fresh start that begins with a new quarterback. Ethan Vasko, who transferred in from Coastal Carolina, will start under center against Maine.
Vasko threw for 2,120 yards and 14 touchdowns last season while completing 54.6 percent of his passes. It's not an ideal completion rate, nor is his eight interceptions to just 14 passing scores. Nonetheless, he's earned the starting job.
Maine didn't perform well in 2024, posting a 5-7 record with four losses in the final five weeks. Carter Peevy returns after being the team's starting quarterback last year.
He finished with 2,417 yards and 18 touchdowns on 66.7 percent completion rate. It was his first year with the Black Bears after four seasons at Mercer.
