What once was an end-of-season Pac-12 rivalry is now an early-season nonconference matchup. Still, it's one of the oldest rivalries in college football.
Washington and Washington State will play in their annual Apple Cup to determine bragging rights among the two largest colleges in the state. This matchup debuted in 1900 and has been played each year, even after Washington left the Pac-12.
The Huskies are in the Big Ten now and are 2-0 to start the season. They defeated Colorado State 38-21 before crushing UC Davis 70-10. Demond Williams Jr. has been solid under center, totaling 480 yards and two touchdowns on a 69.4% completion rate.
Jonah Coleman has arguably been even better. The senior running back rushed for 288 yards and seven touchdowns on 39 carries across two games. Coleman is just three scores off from tying his 2024 touchdown total.
Washington State is 2-1 with a 13-10 win against Idaho and a 36-13 win over San Diego State. The Cougars lost 59-10 to North Texas on the road in Week 3. This will be the third home game for Washington State.
Jaxon Potter leads the offense at quarterback, throwing for 604 yards on a 70.5% completion rate across three games. He does, however, have a 4-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
