Utah sophomore quarterback Isaac Wilson announced Monday he will enter the transfer portal next month. This marks a significant departure for the Utes’ quarterback room.
The former four-star recruit shared the news on Instagram after informing On3’s Hayes Fawcett of his plans.
Wilson, the brother of Miami Dolphins quarterback Zach Wilson, started seven games as a true freshman in 2024 while Cam Rising was sidelined with injury. He threw for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns, but also had 11 interceptions and completed 56.4% of his passes during a turbulent season in which he battled illness and closed the year with a knee sprain.

Despite returning for 2025 after briefly entering the portal last winter, Wilson’s role diminished. Kyle Whittingham named him the backup entering the season, but freshman Byrd Ficklin ultimately overtook him for the No. 2 spot behind starter Devon Dampier. Wilson played only 12 snaps this fall, leaving little opportunity for advancement on Utah’s depth chart
With Dampier entrenched and Ficklin viewed as the program’s future, Wilson’s path to playing time had evaporated. He becomes the third Utah player to announce plans to transfer ahead of the portal window opening Jan. 2.
