Leading up to Bill Belichick’s college football debut at North Carolina, there was little to no talk about TCU.
By the time the Horned Frogs finished off a 48-14 demolition of the Tar Heels, it was clear who the better team was in every phase — and that’s exactly what head coach Sonny Dykes wanted to prove.
“I think we all felt a little disrespected, maybe, coming in. There was a lot of conversation and none of it was about us. I think we all were highly motivated. Our players were certainly excited to play,” Dykes said.
The Horned Frogs made sure by the end of the night they had their respect back.
And it wasn’t just the team on the field making noise — TCU’s social media crew spent the evening keeping receipts and cashing them in.
“Mannnn the @TCUFootball account ate like a death row convict last night,” college football analyst Josh Pate posted.
One viral moment came when the Horned Frogs’ account reposted UNC’s announcement of its Hulu docuseries. Their caption: “When does episode one come out?”
Earlier Monday, Deadspin had tweeted, “Babe wake up, Bill Belichick coaches college football today.” TCU quickly clapped back: “Babe go back to sleep.”
They also didn’t miss a chance to hammer home the stats. TCU became the only FBS team in the last 20 seasons to record: two rushing touchdowns of 25+ yards, a passing touchdown of 25+ yards, a 25+ yard interception return touchdown, and a 25+ yard fumble return touchdown — all in the same game. Belichick, in his long NFL career, had never allowed all of that in an entire season.

The Horned Frogs’ account even reposted a picture of Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson with the caption: “THE REAL L.T.,” a not-so-subtle jab at UNC legend Lawrence Taylor.
From kickoff to the final whistle, and long after, TCU took every opportunity to prove a point: they weren’t just better than Belichick’s Tar Heels on the field — they embarrassed them off it, too.
