Following a national championship in 2024, many Michigan fans were disappointed that the Wolverines finished the following season with a mediocre 8-5 record under new head coach Sherrone Moore.
Expectations were as high as ever thanks to Moore's predecessor Jim Harbaugh, and Moore's first impression was not as good as he had hoped.
For this reason, CBS Sports hinted at some possible dissent behind the scenes in Ann Arbor in its 2025 College Football Hot Seat Ratings. Moore received a 2.22 rating out of 5, putting him in the "All good ... for now" category.
However, Isaiah Hole of Wolverine Wire took issue with this evaluation of Moore's standing with his school.
Hole wrote, "Given his recruiting prowess (Michigan had the No. 6 class in 2025 and is currently ranked No. 7 in the 247Sports team rankings) and the fact that the Wolverines beat their rivals and won the bowl game, despite having his [hands] tied behind his back offensively, it's unlikely that the athletic department is looking at Moore with skeptical eyes.
"We'd put Moore in the safe and secure range, as he'll likely get a bit of latitude given that he is a first time head coach, given the reins after a late departure by Jim Harbaugh, while also having to navigate a completely new world of college football. That is, of course, barring the Wolverines completely falling off a cliff -- a la Brady Hoke in 2014."
Hole added further insight to Moore's standing entering 2025.
"At this juncture, entering the 2025 season, Moore's seat isn't warm at all -- it's quite cool," Hole said. "He'll likely be given a few years to show that he can lead the team in the same way that Harbaugh had."
