No. 2 South Dakota State visits No. 3 Montana State on Saturday in an early showdown between two of the top programs in the FCS.
The teams exchanged places in the national rankings this week after the Bobcats fell 59-13 at FBS No. 7 Oregon in their opener and the Jackrabbits eased past FCS No. 14 Sacramento State 20-3.
Despite the ugly score, there were plenty of positives for Montana State during the trip to Eugene. While the defense couldn't stop the Ducks, the offense didn't turn the ball over and was relatively efficient as quarterback Justin Lamson, a Stanford transfer, completed 23 of 31 passes for 193 yards.
Jackrabbits QB Chase Mason posted similar numbers in his first career start, completing 17 of 23 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown. SDSU did most of its damage on the ground, though, with Fordham transfer Julius Loughridge rushing 22 times for 159 yards. His 3,281 career rushing yards are the most of any active FCS player.
