While the recruiting trail has slowed recently for the Michigan Wolverines, there is reason for optimism about a high-profile recruit.
Four-star freshman cornerback Shamari Earls had some interesting words on who could be the next big grab for head coach Sherrone Moore and Co.

Earls also talked about how this mystery recruit — a Virginia running back — will announce his commitment on August 19th. This has led to mass speculation that the player Earls is talking about is none other than five-star RB, Savion Hiter, who fits the entire description.
Hiter, at 5-foot-11.5, 200 pounds, is a consensus top-20 player in his class and the No. 1 running back in the country. He currently plays for Louisa County High School in Mineral, Virginia.
The Wolverines are still battling Georgia, Tennessee, and Ohio State for his services, and what an addition he would be to this 2026 group. Michigan does have three-star RB Jonathan Brown leading the unit right now, but Hiter is on another level and has legitimate superstar potential in the NCAA.
Nothing is set in stone yet, and perhaps Earls is merely trying to will this into existence. But that would be quite the conspiracy theory, and the Wolverines should prep themselves for a potential offense-changing announcement.
We saw what offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey did with an elite running back (Omarion Hampton) at North Carolina, and there is no reason Hiter could not be the next great in a long line of Michigan legends.
For now, we must wait and see what Hiter decides.
