Joel Klatt makes brutal assessment about the Auburn job image

Fox college football commentator Joel Klatt had a lot to say about the opening with the Auburn Tigers, and none of it was good.

When Klatt made an appearance Monday on the Birmingham sports podcast "The Next Round", he panned the Auburn job and called out Tiger fans for having high expectations.

"Guys it's not a good job, que all the Auburn fans getting all upset, he said.

"Their expectations are over their skis. They aren't even the best job in their own state... It's not even like close. Auburn's expectations are in line with Alabama's expectations. It's like the sister of the beauty queen... You ain't your sister."

"Auburn ain't Alabama," he said. The way that they operate is not in line with what they are as a program."

'You can't be a great job when you aren't even the best job in your state," Klatt concluded.

A brutal assessment for a job many feel is one of the best openings in the country. But over the past 18 years, Auburn has had four coaching changes.

In that time, they've won only one national championship and have yet to make the College Football Playoff.

When Hugh Freeze was hired, it was thought he could bring Auburn to the promise land because of his success as head coach at Ole Miss, plus he was one of the few coaches who had beaten Nick Saban, not once but twice.

But he was never able to find his mojo with the Tigers despite having top 10 recruiting classes. Now, as they begin another coaching search, who is willing to take on what seems at times as a difficult task.
