Welcome back to college football.

Well, technically college football has already been back for a little over a week. But Saturday brings us our first full college football Saturday of the season. Most of the country is 0-0, and while this slate doesn't bring a ton of premium matchups, it will allow some of the top teams in the country to see where they stand.

One of the biggest questions of the year is where Alabama and Ohio State stand. With Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud heading to the Panthers and Texans, respectively, both squads have had quarterback battles raging throughout the offseason. If we've learned anything about these two national powerhouses, whoever they play will have a chance to thrive. But this is the first time in several seasons the CFB Goliaths have had preseason uncertainty.

Georgia and Michigan, meanwhile, have no such controversy. Carson Beck is taking the reins from Stetson Bennett, whereas J.J. McCarthy returns as the incumbent in Ann Arbor. Both teams perennially field elite defenses, which should once again be a calling card.

Outside of the preseason's top four, USC plays in its second game of the season as Caleb Williams attempts to defend his Heisman. The top 10 gets rounded by Penn State and Washington. The only top-10 teams not playing Saturday are LSU and Florida State, who will square off Sunday.

College football schedule today

Twenty of the Top 25 teams will be playing on Saturday, with the vast majority being effectively tune-up games.

The teams not playing Saturday include Utah (vs. Florida Thursday), Florida State and LSU (Sunday), and Clemson (vs. Duke Monday). USC and Notre Dame are the Top 25 teams playing their second games of the season instead of their first. No. 1 Georgia plays at 6 p.m. against Tennessee-Martin in Athens, Georgia.

North Carolina vs. South Carolina will be the premiere matchup of the day at neutral Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. Drake Maye and Spencer Rattler will be the headliners as QBs of their respective teams, with Maye being touted as a potential top draft pick next season and Rattler experiencing a resurgence last year.
